Yoshihiro Tachiki began his career as a photographer in the 1950s, and since then he has continued to contribute to the development of commercial photography in Japan, mainly in the fields of publishing and advertising, through his expression of entertainment, portraiture, nudes, fashion, etc. Since the 1970s, he has been actively photographing local people and scenery on his business trips, whether in Japan or abroad. In the 2000s, he began to take snapshots daily in Tokyo, where he is based, as a result of his work for several magazines.
This exhibition features 36 works taken from photographer Yoshihiro Tachiki's latest book, "Seven Truths Surpassing One Pretty Lie. In this unique book, six editors have selected, arranged, and composed each of the 16 pages from approximately 1,000 new snapshots taken by Tachiki in Tokyo and various other locations in Japan over the past several years.
By relying on the ambitious practice of this collection, this exhibition will present Tachiki's works from the different perspectives of these six editors, providing an opportunity to appreciate at the same time the abundant interpretive possibilities inherent in the medium of photography and Tachiki's unchanging spirit as a photographer who constantly captures the times in sharp, beautiful, and funny ways. Tachiki, who has always been keenly aware of the beauty and comedy of the times, and the spirit of his photography as a nomad, are offered at the same time.
