Yoshitatsu Yanagihara
This winter, the Yoshitatsu Yanagihara Memorial Museum of Art will feature a corner where visitors can touch and appreciate five small sculptures created by Yoshitatsu Yanagihara.

Yoshitatsu Yanagihara (1910-2004) was a sculptor from Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. Initially, Yanagihara set his sights on becoming a painter, but was impressed by the sculptures of the French artist Bourdelle in an art magazine and decided to pursue a career in sculpture. Active in Tokyo and studying in France after the war, he came to be known as one of Japan's leading sculptors. He is especially known for his depictions of people and crows.

In museums, visitors are usually not allowed to touch the works in order to protect them. However, touching a sculpture can provide discoveries that are different from those gained from only viewing.
