Yosuke Yamanouchi graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts, specializing in oil painting, in 2021, and has been continuing his artistic activities based in Tokyo. While referencing classical paintings, he confronts the history and structure of painting itself, exploring the possibilities of contemporary painting. In this exhibition, he will present new works themed around "what" and "how" to paint at two venues in Ginza and Kyoto, respectively.
At the "Mind Wandering" exhibition held at Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore, the focus is on "what" to paint, concentrating on the images that emerge. Starting from the basic concept of handling drawing materials, the consciousness gradually diffuses into infinite images, wandering, and the exhibited works capture unconscious mental landscapes that the artist could not have imagined before. At the "Narcissus and Mirror" exhibition held at Kyoto Tsutaya Bookstore, the focus shifts to "how" to paint, presenting works created with the image of returning the diffused consciousness to its original place by facing reality. Layering paint multiple times, confronting the canvas, and facing oneself, Yosuke Yamanouchi continues to present his latest works, offering new painting experiences and exploring the potential of contemporary painting at both venues.
