Yuhei Higashikata
Solo exhibition by Yuhei Higashikata, an artist from Sapporo now residing in Hachinohe, explores the theme of bananas, inspired by conversations in Southeast Asia. Higashikata's works shed light on the artificial nature of bananas and their symbolic connections to masculinity and global trade, emphasizing the environmental and labor-related issues surrounding banana production. The exhibition features video works documenting Higashikata's quest for wild bananas in Vietnam and examines parallels between artificial nutrition for muscle building and the cultivation of aesthetically pleasing bananas. Higashikata's works address intricate international dynamics and the commercialization of the natural world.
