Hayashi Yuuki began creating video work using photographs he took himself in 1997, and has exhibited his work at art exhibitions and film festivals in Japan and abroad. In 2020, he moved to Super Studio Kitakagaya (SSK), a shared studio in Kitakagaya operated by the Foundation, where he continues to work on his projects.
In this exhibition, Hayashi will present past works as well as five new videos based on his experiences in Kitakagaya. The venue is the former site of the Osaka factory of the Namura Shipbuilding Works, which symbolizes Kitakagaya, once a prosperous shipbuilding town. Through Hayashi's videos, which use objects seen in everyday life but somehow evoke a different world, visitors will feel the overlap between the artist's gaze and the time that Kitakagaya has spun out.
