Zen Narratives through Doshaku Jinbutsuga

Masaki Art Museum
Finished
"Doshaku Jinbutsuga" painting genre originates from Zen Buddhist culture. In Zen Buddhism, disciples receive portraits of their masters and calligraphic works as a testament to receiving and inheriting the teachings correctly. Doshaku Jinbutsuga emerged from these, depicting the master's lineage through generations. This genre expanded to include revered figures beyond the Zen lineage. In this exhibition, the focus is on Doshaku Jinbutsuga paintings that encompass a diverse range of revered figures crossing the boundaries of Buddhism and Daoism.
