New York-based fashion brand Marc Jacobs opened its first bookstore on Bleecker Street in New York in September 2010. The fifth store worldwide opened in Harajuku, Tokyo in October 2013.

The impetus for creating Bookmarc came from the news that a bookstore in New York's West Village was closing. Both Marc Jacobs, the designer, and Robert Duffy, the co-founder of the brand, have an extraordinary passion for books, and while the Marc by Marc Jacobs store originally carried a carefully selected selection of books, they decided to take over the bookstore in the West Village and open a new store in Harajuku, Tokyo, in October 2013. By taking over the bookstore as it was and adding a variety of books, they succeeded in creating a new face that represents the inspirational source of the Marc Jacobs brand. Bookmarc is also a way to provide a place where people can actually pick up a book, rediscover the excellence of the book, and purchase it on the spot, as there are very few new small bookstores in town that sell mainly art-related books these days.

Bookmarc carries carefully selected books in a variety of genres, from art, photography, fashion, and music to poetry and art theory. It will also feature a large selection of vintage and autographed books that are coveted by collectors. This has made the store a favorite of Marc Jacobs fans as well as many new customers.
