The Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum was built in 1933 as the residence of Prince Asakamiya. It was opened in 1983 as a unique art museum that harmonizes the Art Deco style of the main building itself as a work of art. Exhibitions take advantage of the space and the lush garden. In recent years, the museum has undergone a renovation of the new building, renovation of the garden, installation of elevators in the main building, and a new restaurant, and was comprehensively opened in 2018. The main building is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan as a valuable historical building that accurately retains the Art Deco style directly imported from France to this day and shows the cultural acceptance of Tokyo in the early Showa period.
