Located in Sunshine City, Ikebukuro, Tokyo, the Ancient Orient Museum is the first museum in Japan dedicated to the ancient Orient. The museum exhibits archaeological materials and artifacts from Mesopotamia and Egypt, the birthplace of the earliest human civilizations, as well as Persia and the Silk Road, which connected the civilizations of Eurasia, and items excavated in Syria. In addition to collection exhibitions (regular exhibitions), the museum also holds special exhibitions that borrow materials from outside the museum on a wide range of themes, as well as small "close-up" exhibitions that focus on a single theme.

The museum also offers a wide variety of specialized courses and lectures to learn more about the ancient Orient, as well as many events such as hands-on workshops. The museum store sells original goods and books related to the ancient Orient.
