American continent lies between northern latitude of 30 degrees and 70 degrees, which includes the Arctic Circle. Tanikado divided various terrains of this continent into 6 areas: Glacier Country, Mountain Country, High Country, Rainforest and Coastal Country, Desert Country, and Canyon Country. This exhibition focuses on photographs taken in national parks and quasi-national parks.
In order to capture vast landscapes, Tanikado mainly used large format camera for regular photos, while, for panoramic photos, he took several shots with digital camera first, raising pixel resolution up to 50-million, and finally putting all the images together through image processing. By taking these steps, he succeeded in producing photographs that panoramic film camera has never realized.
The title of this exhibition is based on Tanikado's own experience during 5 years of shooting trip throughout the continent, when expansive scenery in front of his eyes looked just like big screens created by the earth.
35 color photographs are on view.
