Artists

Michael Sowa
Born in 1945 in Berlin, Michael Sowa flourished as painter, caricaturist and illustrator after graduating from art university. He attracted international attention with his illustrations for the book "Der kleine König Dezember" published in 1993. His work leaves a strong impression on viewers with the humorous portrayal of animals and insects he depicts by drawing inspirations from ordinary yet funny moments of our daily lives.

In recent years, Sowa has widened the range of his activities, handling the stage art and costumes for the opera "the Magic Flute" (1998), creating illustrations and plops for the film "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" (2001), and depicting the backdrop image for the film "Wallace & Gromit" (2005).

This exhibition showcases a total of 130 representative and previously unexhibited works by this singular artist, including original drawings for "Der kleine König Dezember".
