Imaginary Architecture from Piranesi to Minoru Nomata

Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts
Finished

Artists

Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Minoru Nomata et al.
Through painting, printing and 3D forms many have imagined and depicted architecture which in fact does not exist in real life. This exhibition follows artists such as Giovanni Battista Piranes in imagined recreations of ancient Rome to the architects "on paper" who drew magnificent Baroque spaces, 18th century illustrators who, through archaeological surveys and the power of imagination, envisioned the architecture of ancient Egypt, to artists of the contemporary age. Pointing to the beauty and fascination of architecture constructed through fantasy, this exhibition offers a glimpse into the genealogy of those who have attempted to reveal the world through the architecture of the imagination.

Venue: Special Exhibition Gallery 1 + 2
