Yukihisa Isobe was one of the leaders of Japanese post-war avant garde, but at one point he stopped his work in this field and traveled to the US to study ecological planning. Through his practice as an environmental planner across both Japan and America, he came to participate in the Echigo-tsumari Art Triennale in 2000, and while closely linking with the theme of environment he came to actively return to his artistic engagement. In this exhibition he brings focus to the water of the Boso peninsula, in a series of 30 new and unseen works which offer a new perspective on our notions of Earth, continent and archipelago.
