In the 1940s Wilbert Awdry put his pen to the “Railway Series”, centering on the character of Thomas the Tank Engine and began a long run of publications to be illustrated by numerous artists including Reginald Dalby, John T. Kenney, Gunvor and Peter Edwards, proving to have a powerful legacy which continues to this day. This exhibition features original illustrations from the early series along with drafts by Wilbert himself and various models used in the TV series.
