Setsuko Klossowska de Rola
Whilst known as the wife of the last master of the 20th century, Balthus(1908-2001), Setsuko Klossowska de Rola is also respected as an artist in her own right, working in painting, ceramics and writing. She is the honorary head of the Balthus Foundation and also recognized as an UNESCO Artist for Peace. Setsuko has spent more than 40 years living in Europe, but throughout his time she has carefully preserved her Japanese culture, including the kimono she received from her grandmother. She has also continued a polished sense of aesthetic and love as seen through her approach to hand-made hospitality and continues to live in the Grand Chalet of Switzerland, with its 260 year history, combining the traditions of Japan and the West. Here the paintings of Setsuko are presented alongside kimono, self-designed tableware and other hand made products ranging over 180 pieces.
