The Tokyo Art Book Fair started in 2009 as the first book fair in Japan to specialize in art publications. Participants of this annual event includes independent publishers, galleries, bookstores as well as individual artists and artist groups. The fair has seen significant growth in its scale and content over the years, and the three-day event now brings together over 300 participants from Japan and abroad. 2016 marks the 8th year of TABF, and the fair will be extended to four days. This year’s featured country is Brazil and the organizer of the art book fair Feira Plana will be gathering publishers and artists from the country. Their publications are rarely seen in Japan and we hope that this will be a special opportunity to experience the unique and active publishing culture of Brazil. We are also excited to announce a new initiative at TABF: Steidl Book Award Japan 2016. At the fair, there will be various events for visitors to enjoy, such as special exhibitions, talks, panel discussions, and film screenings. The Tokyo Art Book Fair champions the culture of art publishing, and aims to create the ideal opportunity for visitors to experience the ever-evolving, vibrant world of art publications.
