Shusei Kobayakawa
Presenting some 110 works, including newly discovered war paintings, mainly from the private collection of Nihonga war painter Shusei Kobayakawa (1885–1974). The artist’s first major retrospective includes works spanning his career and goes beyond famous war paintings such as “Kuni no Tate” (Shield of the Nation), which was rejected by the Japanese army and kept in secrecy for many years.
