This exhibition will explore the history of the Chiba City Museum of Art's prized collection of new prints. The exhibition traces the history of new prints from their inception to their development, from the first masterpieces by Goyo Hashiguchi (Woman in a Bathhouse) and Shinsui Ito (Mirror to Mirror), through Hasui Kawase Tomoe's emotionally rich Japanese landscapes, Hiroshi Yoshida's exquisite foreign landscapes, the unique actor pictures by Koka Yamamura and Kanpo Yoshikawa, to Kiyoshi Kobayakawa's series "Modern Times" that vividly depicted mogas (modern girls) in the early Showa period. The exhibition traces the history of shin-hanga from its establishment to its development through approximately 190 works.

The exhibition also introduces works by Helen Hyde and Bertha Lamb, who can be regarded as pioneers of new prints.
