Artists

Ryu Okubo
Ryu Okubo has produced numerous animated music videos since around 2011. In recent years, he has returned to his own expression, focusing on sequential arts like animation as well as painting and drawing. He is also involved in the production of video games and other works.

Okubo's first solo exhibition of new works in six years presents a series of large paintings with fragmented motifs, a series of seven paintings with interconnected motifs, and a series of drawings. The paintings are diverse and include events from Okubo's personal life, happenings in far-off places, scenes of family life, and favorite motifs. Seemingly unrelated scenes share a single canvas, appearing as if they could melt into each other while maintaining a certain distance. The style of capturing and connecting various images from a bird's eye view and combining them with personal thoughts is a natural expression for an artist who has been working in animation for some time. “Continuity" is also a natural theme. A book of the exhibited works will be released.
