Born the eldest daughter of Yasutake Funakoshi, one of Japan's leading sculptors, Chieko Suemori is also known as the editor of the lecture transcripts of Her Imperial Highness, Empress Michiko. With the belief that "picture books are not only for children," she has published many picture books that convey the sadness, hope, and beauty of life, and after the Great East Japan Earthquake, she launched an initiative to deliver picture books to children in the affected areas.

This exhibition, along with the original drawings and precious materials of the gems of picture books created by Suemori through her encounters and collaborations with various people, will bring together the works of the Funakoshi family, including her father Yasutake, a sculptor, her younger brother Katsura, Naoki, and her mother Michiko, who gave up her own haiku writing to become a sculptor's wife.
