Hand-painted ukiyo-e refers to works directly painted on silk or Japanese paper, showcasing the artist's skill with intricate details such as patterns on luxurious kimono and delicate depictions of hair strands. These are precious one-of-a-kind pieces. In this exhibition, the Hikaru Museum (Takayama, Gifu Prefecture) has carefully selected 111 pieces from its collection of hand-painted artworks, offering an insight into the historical development of hand-painted ukiyo-e from the mid-Edo period to the Meiji era.
