Life has changed dramatically since the Covid-19 pandemic. Restrictions were imposed on direct face-to-face interactions, and indirect online interactions rapidly became widespread, changing the nature of communication. A kind of physical inconvenience caused by non-face-to-face interaction creates the illusion of not only physical distance but also mental distance. Focusing on the sense of discomfort created by the contrast between reality and unreality, presence and absence, and physical and digital, Mao Shibata's solo exhibition will focus on the theme of "connection" and "distance" that can be created only in this age of intersecting real and imaginary images.
