Marie Quant, who will be 92 in 2022, is still one of England's most beloved fashion designers. This exhibition introduces the trajectory of Marie Quant’s life and career. Quant is a designer who pioneered innovative fashion for young women and led the "Swinging London" youth culture that originated in the 1960s in the United Kingdom.
Quant is known for introducing youthful and dynamic designs that differed from the old values bound by Western traditions and class culture, and for popularizing items that are commonplace today, such as the mini-skirt and tights. In addition to her unique creations that spanned all aspects of lifestyle, from clothing to cosmetics and interior design, her global brand development in the age of mass production and her public relations strategy of becoming a fashion icon herself attracted media attention, and she led the way in her time.
This exhibition, which will be on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in Tokyo, traces Quant's achievements as a designer from 1955 to 1975, and her journey as an entrepreneur who pioneered an era, with approximately 100 garments, accessories, photographic materials, videos, and more.
