Ryota Kuwakubo is an artist who creates artworks using various media including electronic devices, and since his 2010 installation "The Tenth Sentiment (Point, Line, Surface)" using a model train with a light source attached, he has been developing works in which light and shadow create an inner experience for the viewer. This exhibition will feature the work of Kuwakubo.
In this exhibition, Kuwakubo will present a new work on the theme of the sea in Boso. In the first half of the work, Kuwakubo researches Chiba Prefecture from various aspects such as geography, nature, industry, and culture, while interacting with Chiba Prefecture's mascot character, Chibakun. The "Cibanian" geological formation, where the earth's magnetic field (geomagnetism) has been reversed; Tadataka Ino, who completed an accurate map of Japan based on actual measurements; the rape flower, Chiba Prefecture's flower; and peanuts, the prefecture's overwhelmingly large production output. It is difficult to pinpoint a single motif that symbolizes Chiba Prefecture, and this is a testament to the prefecture's multifaceted nature. Kuwakubo has made several studies, following the methods of artists in the past, and will exhibit his studies and process. In the second half of the exhibition, Kuwakubo will present a final work based on his studies and inspired by the sea of Chiba Prefecture.
Today, with the development of AI, everything is becoming searchable and generable. Kuwakubo's attempts to create while moaning about the theme and obsessively imitating the achievements of past artists, while containing a sense of humor, sharply questions what new creations by artists in the age of AI are all about.
