The Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki was created to trace the footsteps of Taro Okamoto's activities and to share his artistry and ideas.

The museum is based on the concept of a "hands-on museum" where visitors can enjoy the combination of the rich nature of Ikuta Ryokuchi and art, and where they can enjoy Taro Okamoto's and other works of art with all their senses in the city's largest green space, allowing them to experience nature and Taro Okamoto's creative energy in each of the four seasons.

As for the museum's exhibition programs, the museum holds permanent exhibitions throughout the year to introduce "the art of Taro Okamoto and his parents, Ippei and Kanoko," special exhibitions with the themes of "deeper recognition" of Taro Okamoto's art, "relationships with surrounding artists and the times," and "the relationship between art and society," and the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art (Taro Award), an open competition to discover artists who will lead the next generation.

In addition to the above, the museum is engaged in the preservation and collection of artworks, survey and research projects such as archiving of materials, educational programs for children and adults, and the dissemination of information on Okamoto's art both in Japan and abroad through various media.

The area around Ikuta Ryokuchi is also home to the Kawasaki Municipal Japanese Minkaen, the Kawasaki Science Museum, and the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum, all of which are popular among citizens as nature and culture zones in Kawasaki.
