Sano Art Museum is located in Mishima City, Shizuoka, about an hour from Tokyo by bullet train. The museum, a public interest incorporated foundation, opened in November 1966.

The museum holds about seven exhibitions a year, mainly of Japanese art. A wide variety of themes, including painting, crafts, and photography, are the main attractions. Among them, the Sword Exhibition, held almost every year, attracts many sword fans from all over the country.
The museum has an extensive collection of oriental arts and crafts, and some of them, such as Buddhist statues and swords, are on display in the permanent exhibition room.

On the spacious grounds of the museum, there is a garden called "Ryuusen-en" which is a circular garden with water from the spring of Mt. Fuji that visitors can enjoy all year round.
