Shiseido Gallery opened in 1919 and is said to be the oldest existing art gallery in Japan. Except for interruptions during the course of its history due to earthquakes, wars, and building renovations, the gallery has contributed to the promotion of Japanese art and culture through its commitment to "the discovery and creation of new beauty.” Shiseido Gallery has hosted more than 3,100 exhibitions to date, and many of the artists who have used it as a venue for presenting their work have later left a significant mark on Japanese art history.

Since the 1990s, the Shiseido Gallery has focused on contemporary art, actively introducing contemporary expressions that combine avant-garde and purity.

In 2001, the gallery reopened on the first basement floor of the Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building. With a ceiling height of over 5 meters, it is one of the largest spaces in the Ginza district, and has attracted attention from overseas artists as a place that allows for a wide range of expression.
