The red brick building is a reconstruction of the Mitsubishi Ichigokan, designed by Josiah Conder and built in 1894. In 2010, the museum opened as the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, located just a five-minute walk from JR Tokyo Station, in one of Japan's leading business centers, Marunouchi, playing a role as a cultural center for the city. The museum's collection focuses on late 19th-century Western art, including Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Odilon Redon, and Felix Vallotton. The museum also houses Café 1894, a museum café and bar, Store 1894, a museum store, and the Historical Reference Room, a space for experiencing the history of Marunouchi. A stroll through the Marunouchi area along with the museum is highly recommended.
