Since its opening in 1978, the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art has been affectionately known as "Millet's Museum. The museum houses about 70 of Jean-Francois Millet's works, and visitors can view his masterpieces such as "The Sower" at any time. The museum is committed to collecting works by Millet, artists of the Barbizon School, major European landscape painters, artists associated with Yamanashi, and modern and contemporary Japanese artists. The collection is changed four times a year.
