D&Department Project

We focus on the “ daily life feeling” which we were impressed on by Jeminai in LA, MOMA, MOCA, ICA in UK, and ICA in Japan where one of our members had once worked. We think the “coziness” of the restaurant in MOMA or cafe in ICA is very attractive, which no places in Japan can pursue. They supply casual, real, and daily feelings to us. We don’t think Japanese museums can hold these feelings so far. So we think the style we have here, the design shop with cafe restaurants, fits better to Japanese life style. We also focus on the quick gallery system, which means to hold the show in one-month preparation. It will release the stress that most artists and creators had been feeling in Japan when they want to have exhibitions in galleries, such as “huge preparation time”, “extra attention to valuables”, and “cost for the place”. In short, we make the most effort to recreate the inspiration and chemistry that the art works give us at the first sight as immediate as possible. We don’t deny the worth of art simulated from the demand of curators, companies, and so on, but this is the style we’ll keep and think that fits best in Japan so far.
