Directed by painter Erina Matsui, Atelier is an artist-run-space and experimental studio by and for artists. Half of the space is for creating works and half is for holding events held on an irregular schedule. Atelier’s location in Shiinamachi, once called “Ikebukuro Montparnasse,” has been home to studios for artists such as Morikazu Kumagai, Yuzo Saeki, and Tsune Nakamura, as well as being the site of the “manga-mecca” apartment complex Tokiwa-so.
