In order to honor the outstanding achievements of Dr. Makino Tomitaro, widely regarded as the "Father of Japanese Plant Taxonomy" and native to Kochi, the Makino Botanical Garden was established on Mount Godaisan in Kochi City in April 1958, the year following his passing. Spanning approximately 8 hectares of undulating terrain, this garden showcases over 3,000 species of wild and cultivated plants associated with Dr. Makino, adding color to each season and offering visitors the joy of encountering botanical wonders in a natural setting. As the sole botanical garden in Shikoku harmoniously integrated with the abundant natural environment of Mount Godaisan, it has become a beloved destination.
In 1999, the botanical garden expanded its premises and established the "Makino Museum of Plants & People Research & Administration Building" as a center for plant research, education, and public outreach. Engaged in research activities, the garden conducts surveys, collection, and conservation efforts of wild plants in Kochi Prefecture, while also undertaking Myanmar and other overseas locations.
In the year 2008, the "50th Anniversary Garden" was created in the South Garden, offering visitors the opportunity to admire oriental ornamental plants. The conservatory underwent a renewal in 2010. In 2019, the "Konkonyama Parkland" and "Fumufumu Hiroba Garden" were expanded and enhanced, also a theater showcasing 4K films was opened within the "Makino Museum of Plants & People Exhibition Hall". Furthermore, in May 2023, "Research Communication Center for Plant Resources" was inaugurated, dedicated to applied research focusing on the development of medicinal plants as valuable resources. Over half a century since its establishment, the Makino Botanical Garden continues to evolve as a comprehensive institution encompassing conservation, research, education, and a place of relaxation, upholding its role and mission.

The Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo was established on November 1, 1989 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Kanazawa. The kobo (workshop) is as an institution that specializes in KOGEI (crafts), and is responsible for the preservation and development of KOGEI in Kanazawa as well as the promotion of cultural activities. Kanazawa is known for its tradition of excellence in KOGEI, which developed from the activities of the Osaikusho (Kaga Clan Kobo). To retain the spirit of its forerunners, the Kobo adhered to three principles: "To train artists who will work actively at the international level," "To exhibit KOGEI to the public," and "To encourage the public to participate in KOGEI." Through exhibitions and workshops for the public, it strove to continue to develop the culture of KOGEI. Since 1989, the kobo has offered traineeships to artists and has cultivated trainees to have the creativity to use their art to respond to the changing times.
30 years after its foundation, the kobo was renovated and re-opened on November 1, 2019 in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of Kanazawa City. The three principles of the kobo were also updated to reflect its changing nature. These renewed principles include: "To train artists who will work actively at the international level," "To connect with the world proactively," and "To diffuse authentic KOGEI (crafts) all over the world." The Kobo aims to be a focal point for producing world-class craftspeople who play active roles in KOGEI while also adjusting to the changing times.

The State Guest House, Akasaka Palace (SGH AP) was the only palace in Japan that was built based on the neo-Baroque style as Togu Gosho (Crown Prince's Palace) in 1909. It is a structure built by mobilizing all available resources of the Japanese architectural, art and craft industries in those days and represents the culmination of Japan's full-scale modern Western architecture in the Meiji period. Japan returned to the international community a dozen years after World War II and the number of foreign dignitaries that it welcomes increased; given this, the facilities were extensively restored and remodeled along with the construction of a new Japanese Style Annex and made a fresh start as the current SGH AP in 1974. After the massive repair work in 2009, the SGH AP was designated as a national treasure as one of the structures that represent Japanese architecture. The SGH AP has received a large number of distinguished guests, such as monarchs, presidents or prime ministers, and been used as a venue for international conferences, including summit meetings, as well.
