Yokohama Triennale 2020 runs July 17–October 11, 2020. The title of this year’s festival directed by New Delhi’s Raqs Media Collective is “afterglow.” Topics such as the co-existence of care and toxicity are explored. Raqs Media Collective states: We are now in the afterglow of an unfamiliar, viral, and partly unreadable time.
In addition to having its first non-Japanese director, this year’s Triennale hosts a more international mix of artists than previous editions. Of the 67 artists and groups, roughly half are showing work in Japan for the first time. The event’s main site is Yokohama Museum of Art, as in past years. There are also displays at Plot 48 and NYK Maritime Museum, as well as online performance art videos called Episōdos.
