Itami City, located in the southeastern part of Hyogo Prefecture, prospered during the Edo period (1603-1867) as a city of sake and has been widely known as a city with a strong cultural flavor visited by writers and artists. In April 2022, the "Itami Museum" was opened in the Miyanomae area, the center of the city, integrating the former Itami Municipal Museum of Art, Itami Municipal Craft Center, Itami Municipal Gomachi Kan, Itami Municipal Museum, and Kakimori Bunko.

The Museum also holds various exhibitions that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, as well as educational activities such as lectures and events, and inherits and opens to the public the former Okada Family Residence and Sake Brewery (designated a nationally important cultural property) and the former Ishibashi Family Residence (designated a prefectural tangible cultural property), which tell the history of Itami's sake brewing. The museum’s mission is to disseminate a wide variety of art and culture within and outside of the city.
