Umezu Hall was built in 1936 with a donation from Fukujiro Umezu, a businessman from the city, and was used as the Ota Town Hall and Hitachiota City Hall until 1978. To bring out the original charm of the building, seismic reinforcement and restoration work to its original state were carried out with a subsidy from the Agency for Cultural Affairs under the "Regional Revitalization Project Utilizing Cultural Properties and Buildings," and the building was reopened on November 22, 2014. The first floor is a permanent exhibition room and reception desk. A large display case was installed when the building was renovated into a local museum, but it was restored to its original appearance during the renovation work. The same marble used for the central staircase of the National Diet Building remains on the counter, wall panels, and the main pillar of the staircase to the second floor. The permanent exhibition introduces the Umezu Hall, Fukujiro Umezu, and materials from primitive antiquity to modern times, with changing exhibits.
