In our Artist-in-Residence capacity, we host domestic and overseas artists, who conduct creative activities while staying in the facility. We open their creative process to the public in workshops. We also facilitate exchange projects which will inspire regional pride by rediscovering the attractions of nature, history and culture, with local cultural and artistic groups.

Naebono Art Studio is run by artists who are based in Sapporo. This old warehouse has two stores with a floor space of 890 square metres, and was once a canned-goods factory. The building was refurbished by the members, and started as art studios in July, 2017.
There are more than 10 groups sharing this building including Japan’s longest-established artist-in-residence office, a photo studio and galleries. This facility also has an open space of 100 square metres that is available for various art-related activities, such as exhibitions, guest studio, music and other performances. These events are expected bring new perspectives to the field of contemporary art, and they are selected by our committee members. Rather than sharing one statement as a team of Naebono Studio, we respect each other’s spontaneous and independent practices; we desire to visualize the quality and power of art. At the same time, as a community, we hope our exchange stimulates each other’s practices, that this environment leads to various possibilities for each of us.

The Taketoyo Town Hall, affectionately known as "Yumetarou Plaza," is a well-loved venue among the residents of Taketoyo Town and its neighboring areas. It serves as a creative space with the theme of "Harmony of Art and Science." In addition to hosting music, theater, and stage performances, the gallery holds an annual "Contemporary Art Appreciation Project" exhibition, which is designed for the enjoyment of both children and adults.

”Man’yō-shū,” which means “A Collection of Myriad Leaves,” is Japan’s earliest existing anthology of poetry and contains approximately 4,500 pieces composed by people from different parts of the country.
Among the places mentioned, it is those in Nara which are referred to most frequently in the Man’yō-shū poems, and still today, Nara Prefecture is dotted with historic sites and beautiful natural landscapes that are related to the Man’yō-shū. Nara may well be called the “home of Man’yō.”
The Nara Prefecture Complex of Man’yō Culture was established in Asuka Village in Nara in September 2001 as a comprehensive cultural institute for ancient culture emphasizing Man’yō-shū. It is indeed a suitable facility for Nara.
The excavation conducted before the construction of this facility unearthed an ancient factory site, Asukaike Ruins, which was later designated as a Historic Site by the national government. The facility coexists with these ruins, and we are trying to use them creatively while carefully preserving them, for example, by displaying the reconstructed site. We hope to contribute to the development of the local community while inviting people to travel back 1,300 years to the world of Man’yō.
