U-Forum Museum

U-Forum Museum was founded in 1987 by Teruko Hiramatsu and Wataru Fuki, who inherited the "avant-garde spirit" of Kazuo Sakata, a pioneer of abstract painting in Japan. (The new building was constructed in 1999). Traditional Japanese painting began with the reproduction of beautiful natural beauty. Nature exists in a space called the cosmic world, and the name of the museum was given to the character for universe, U, from the idea that art is about depicting the universe of all things.

The founders of the museum were active in the United States and Germany. In 1966, Hiramatsu held a solo exhibition in New York, which was highly praised by the critic John Canady, and in Germany, she was highly praised by Dr. Paul Wember and held 30 solo exhibitions at museums in Germany. Fuki has had his work exhibited at MOMA. Since his return to Japan, he has been organizing exhibitions to support outstanding contemporary artists with the support of members all over Japan, following the Kunstverein system, which is an educational organization for contemporary art in Germany.
