Azumino Municipal Museum Of Modern Art, Toyoshina

The permanent collection includes approximately 200 works by the modern Japanese sculptor Hiroatsu Takada, 2,000 paintings by Yoshihei Miya, a painter associated with Ogai Mori, and other artists associated with the local community.

Several times a year, the museum holds special exhibitions to introduce a wide range of modern and contemporary art from unique perspectives. The museum also focuses on educational activities through lectures and concerts.

The museum has a stately Romanesque building modeled after a medieval monastery and a garden featuring 1,000 roses of 500 varieties. The garden is open to the public free of charge and is a popular place of relaxation for the local community. The museum is located adjacent to the Azumino Interchange on the Nagano Expressway, which is the most direct route on the Azumino Art Line connecting the museums in Azumino, making it the gateway to the Art Line and the starting point for sightseeing in Azumino.
