An exhibition tracing the history of NTV’s “Friday Road Show” and exploring the charm of Studio Ghibli’s films will be held at the Warehouse Terada (B&C Hall, E Hall) from June 29 to September 24 and at the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design from October 7 to January 28, 2024.

The “Friday Road Show,” a program broadcasting movies on Friday night, began in 1985. The following year, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984, directed by Hayao Miyazaki) was broadcast for the first time. Since then, the films of Studio Ghibli have been featured more than 200 times, and each broadcast has increased its popularity.

This upcoming exhibition will explore the charm of the films through the memories and records of each era in which they were broadcast and will bring to light the timelessness and universality of Studio Ghibli’s works.

Highlights include The World of Ohm, a space recreating the Sea of Decay, created by model artist Takayuki Takeya, who has worked on Shin Godzilla and other kaiju films. In addition, the large Ghibli’s Phantom Lighthouse created for the Ghibli Expo (2018-2019) in Toyama Prefecture will make its return to the public. Visitors can also immerse themselves in the world of Ghibli through the photo spots, where they can take pictures inside the posters of the films.

Another memorable part of the strong connection between Friday Road Show and Studio Ghibli is the opening scene featuring “Friday Ojisan.” Designed by Hayao Miyazaki, composed by Joe Hisaishi, and directed by Yoshifumi Kondo, this version was broadcast from 1997 to 2009. The exhibition is set to bring back the nostalgic memories of long-time fans and introduce the new generation to the program's rich history.
