Supporting the Next Generation of Contemporary Artists

The contemporary art award TERRADA ART AWARD, held every two years, is dedicated to supporting emerging artists. Each cycle, a distinguished jury carefully reviews submitted works and exhibition proposals before selecting the finalists. For the 2025 edition, five finalists were announced in September from a large number of applications submitted both domestically and internationally.

The selected artists are Daisuke Kuroda, Yuki Kobayashi, Sakura Koretsune, Yuske Taninaka, and Claire Fujita. Each finalist received a production grant of 3 million yen and the opportunity to present their work at the TERRADA ART AWARD 2025 Finalist Exhibition. Over approximately three months, the five artists developed work based on exhibition proposals submitted during the final screening process. The exhibition, running from January 16 to February 1 at Warehouse TERRADA G3-6F in Tennoz, Tokyo, features new works alongside existing pieces. Admission is free.

Beyond the cash prize and exhibition opportunity, finalists receive Ruinart Blanc de Blancs champagne, ¥100,000 worth of PIGMENT TOKYO art supplies, two years of complimentary art storage service, and three years of digital storage service from Warehouse TERRADA, plus research funding (up to ¥300,000) to support the creation and presentation of their next work. This comprehensive support for artists' ongoing creative activities is a defining feature of the award.

The final jury consisted of Takahiro Kaneshima (Associate Professor, SCAPe, Kanazawa College of Art), Yukie Kamiya (Head Curatorial Division, Chief Curator, The National Art Center, Tokyo), Yuki Terase (Founder, Art Intelligence Global), Daito Manabe (Artist, Programmer, Composer), and Meruro Washida (Director, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; Associate Professor, Tokyo University of the Arts).

On January 15, prior to the public opening, an awards ceremony was held where each juror presented their individual award to the finalists. What follows are highlights from the preview, along with comments from the artists and jurors.
