This is Gallery Sora's first exhibition with New York based artist Takeshi Murata. Murata has participated in numerous international gallery and museum exhibitions; recent and upcoming exhibitions include a solo project with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington DC, and participation in "Automatic Update", Museum of Modern Art, New York, "Silence. Listen to the Show", Fondazione Sandretto Re Redaudengo, Torino, Italy and the Matthew Higgs curated exhibition "Redeconstruction", Gladstone Gallery, New York.
Takeshi Murata's film works arrive following the success of a young generation of US-based artists, primarily based in New York, known for their appropriation and reconsideration of the psychedelic. Murata’s work, however, is uniquely contemporary in its formal reconstruction of filmic imagery. Utilizing both found and self-generated footage, Murata exploits the potential of pixel as pigment while investigating narrative space. The present exhibition includes a new single-channel film work "Damage Control", produced in collaboration with musicians Robert Beatty and Ellen Mollé.
