Motohiko Odani strives to express the dynamism of the body by capturing the moments of pain or transformation of human beings utilizing diverse techniques and materials. The new work presented in this exhibition attempts to visualize the air around the body as well as its movement. Our bodies are subject to various movements, physical as well as spiritual. When the body is released from a physical force such as gravity or it experiences psycho-physical ecstasy, the form that the body normally delineates is liberated and attains a form of a different dimension. What Odani sculpts in his work "Hollow" is precisely this: the human body of a different dimension.
The sense of emptiness that the white sculpture emanates disorientates the viewer's sense of gravity when he or she engages with the work. The atmosphere filled with eros as well as pain awake in us bodily sensations never before experienced.
