This exhibition consists of three chapters introducing Morimura’s early black and white photographs and video from mid 1980s to early 1990s as follows.
Chapter 1 “City on Table” MEM (3F) pt.1 September 2-October 2 pt.2 October 3-November 6
“Barco Negro na messa” is a group of still-life photographs created in 1984 and 1985 just before Morimura first showed his famous portrait of van Gogh. Lots of images from the series are carefully staged on table with props and little-objects in his studio.
Chapter 2 “Wandering Cometman” MEM (2F) September 2 - October 2
“Cometman” is Morimura’s first video work created in 1990. It has three chapters including Morimura’s performance documentary in Kyoto.
Chapter 3 “Letter from the Screen” NADiff gallery (B1F) September 2 - October 10
