Yourina Choi “Self-portrait”

Yourina Choi
According to artist Yourina Choi, her interest in self-portraiture has something to do with the sense of discomfort she feels when confronting herself. She explains it by referring to the experience of catching one’s reflection in the mirror of a morning, pointing out the sense of unfamiliarity we feel when seeing the incongruous representation of what should be familiar - our own face. Choi produces self-portraits that attempt to capture this uncanny feeling.
