Artists

Hokusai Katsushika, Bakin Kyokutei, Tanehiko Ryutei
Throughout his career, Hokusai Katsushika (1760-1849) illustrated many books. Playwriters Bakin Kyokutei (1767-1848) and Tanehiko Ryutei (1783-1842) had a close relationship with Hokusai, as he illustrated the stories they wrote. Their collaborative works became presentative masterpieces of the "yomihon" historical novels boom that began in the early Bunka era (1844-1912). This exhibition introduces the works and illustrations of Bakin and Tanehiko, as well as stories of their relationship with Hokusai.
