Artists

Norimichi Hirakawa, Yasuo Nomura
Norimichi Hirakawa (1982-), a native of Hamada, Shimane Prefecture, and Yasuo Nomura (1979-), a native of Masuda, Shimane Prefecture, will present new works in the Iwami region of western Shimane, where they were born and raised.

Hirakawa has been active in domestic and international art exhibitions and art festivals, focusing on video and sound installations that make full use of computer programming. Nomura has been creating paintings based on his reflections on higher dimensions (4 or more dimensions) and the universe, but since moving to New York in 2018, he has been presenting experiential installations.

Not only are the two artists of the same generation and from the same region, but they also both participate in the artist-in-residence program at the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU) at the University of Tokyo (Nomura in 2015, Hirakawa in 2016), and their activities span the realms of art and science.
