Medium and Dimension: Liminal is an exhibition that explores time and space in various forms in conjunction with the renovation of a wooden apartment building built in postwar Kagurazaka, Tokyo. Built in 1966, the wooden structure Kakinokisou (Persimmon Tree House) was originally used as a rental apartment complex. In 2016 the apartment was modified to be mainly used for artist-in-residence accommodation. However, due to the pandemic, this became no longer viable, and it is now being renovated for new uses.

The Japanese English word "apaato / アパート" refers to a separate dwelling in a single building. Of course, the original word "apartment" contains the word "apart" (in time and space).

The exhibition incorporates a multi-layered process of connecting and unraveling time and space inside and outside the building while moving back and forth between time and space, which the building has repeatedly experienced in various ways over the years as a dwelling for multiple individuals. It is an attempt to recapture the present time from the "liminal" state between "what disappears" and "what appears," between "what changes" and "what remains the same", while stepping into a new dimension or into the time and space of those different states.
