The Bologna Children's Book Fair, the world's only international trade fair specializing in children's books, has been held in the northern Italian city of Bologna since 1964, and this year marks its 60th anniversary. The fair is an annual competition for original illustrations for children's picture books, and many illustrators from all over the world submit their works. All entries will be judged impartially by a panel of judges who are experts in the field of picture books.
Since 1978, the museum has held the "Bologna International Picture Book Original Drawing Exhibition" (Bologna Exhibition) as an annual event to introduce the works selected in this competition.
Since the Corona Disaster of 2021, the competition has been submitted online, and the number of entries has continued to increase each year. This year, a record number of 4,345 entries were received from 91 countries and regions. Of these, 79 artists from 27 countries and regions, including five Japanese, were selected for the competition. This exhibition introduces all the selected works.
In addition to the selected works, a special exhibit will include a work by Andres Lopez (winner of the SM Publishing Award 2022/12th) and 20 illustrations by 20 people who were drawn to commemorate the 60th Book Fair and decorate the exhibition venue.
