Chiho Yamagishi, Lin Mingjun
The Japanese term kyogai refers to one’s circumstances or state of being, as well as a state of mind shaped by perception and experience. Although both artists pursue ink painting, their techniques, concepts, styles and approaches to expression stand in sharp contrast. This exhibition brings together two emerging artists who continue to explore this traditional medium in contemporary Japan, pushing its boundaries and seeking new forms of expression. Through their distinct practices, they explore kyogai, a shared theme that runs through both bodies of work.
