Everyone Connects: Bookmaking in Year 100

Ichigaya Letterpress Factory

#Graphics

Until Mar 14
Ichigaya no Mori Book and Letterpress Museum is a hands-on cultural facility dedicated to letterpress printing and bookmaking, offering a rare chance to experience this traditional craft. In 2026, the museum celebrates its fifth anniversary and the 100th anniversary of its Clock Tower building. To mark the occasion, more than 300 participants are working together over ten months to produce a letterpress edition of Natsume Soseki’s Ten Nights of Dreams, a collection of ten short stories exploring strange and dreamlike worlds.

Bookmaking involves far more than printing. From selecting more than 15,000 individual characters by hand to printing and binding, each stage requires patience, precision and repeated trial and error. Following the same sequence as the workshop, this exhibition introduces each stage of the process, revealing the time, skill and collective effort behind making a book.
